First, a clarification most companies skip: epoxy and polyaspartic aren’t always an either/or. Many high-quality floors use both — an epoxy or polyurea base coat for a thick, hard build, finished with a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat. So the real question is usually which chemistry belongs on top.

For most Wilmington garages — especially any floor that sees sunlight through an open door — a polyaspartic topcoat is the right call. It won’t yellow, it cures fast enough for a one-day install, and it shrugs off coastal humidity, salt, and hot tires. It’s what we build most of our floors around.
When epoxy makes sense
Epoxy is an excellent, cost-effective base coat, and for some shaded interior floors an epoxy system can be a smart budget choice. Where it struggles is direct sun (ambering) and humidity (slower, fussier cure). We’ll tell you honestly when epoxy is the better value for your situation.

Is polyaspartic just marketing hype?+
No — the differences are real and measurable: UV stability, faster cure, better flexibility and humidity tolerance. That said, preparation matters far more than which topcoat you choose. A polyaspartic floor over bad prep will still fail.
Will an epoxy garage floor turn yellow?+
An all-epoxy topcoat can amber where sunlight reaches it. We prevent this by finishing sun-exposed floors with a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat.
Which lasts longer?+
Over identical, proper preparation, a polyaspartic-topped system generally offers better long-term UV and abrasion resistance. But lifespan is driven mostly by prep quality, not the topcoat brand.
