Short answer
A professionally installed polyaspartic floor over a properly prepared slab is built to last well over a decade of daily use. A DIY epoxy kit over acid-etched concrete often starts failing within one to three years. The single biggest factor is preparation, not the coating brand.
What actually determines lifespan
The coating's bond to the concrete decides how long the floor lasts. That bond is created during preparation — mechanical grinding to profile the slab, moisture testing to catch vapor problems, and proper crack and spall repair. Get the prep right and the coating stays put for many years; get it wrong and even a premium product will peel.
This is why two floors with the 'same' coating can have wildly different lifespans. The difference is under the coating, not in the bucket.
DIY kits vs. professional systems
Store-bought epoxy kits are thin, water-based coatings applied over acid-etched concrete. They frequently peel, hot-tire lift, or yellow within a few years. A professional full-flake polyaspartic system is a thicker, tougher, UV-stable build applied over a mechanically ground slab — a different product with a very different lifespan.
How to make a coating last
Insist on mechanical diamond grinding, moisture testing, and full crack repair. Choose a UV-stable topcoat, especially in a sunny coastal climate. And get the warranty in writing — a company willing to warranty adhesion is a company that prepped the floor correctly.
